Open Topic: Small blip of right now

Right now, I feel like I have a ton of things going on. I feel like I'm slowly crawling and dragging myself back to normality, getting thing turned in late while studying and doing work that's going to be due tomorrow. Not by anyone else's fault, my teaches give me enough time to do the work but I have the amazing and ever-present urge to procrastinate with everything I do. I wrote a microtheme about it that I surprisingly did really well on, I got a 100% which shows me that I am a good writer and have the ability to write a good essay, but I just need to get rid of the procrastination :( On top of needing to write essays, I need to study for my Calc class, Biology class and my Chem class, so juggling everything is proving to be a bit difficult for me, not impossible but difficult. I just need to fix a few things.

Documentary

I watched Carte l land by Matthew Heineman follows two vigilante groups in their respective efforts to fight off the Mexican Drug cartel on both sides of the border. On the Mexican side it follows Jose Manuel Mireles Valverde, known as “El doctor” as he leads his group Los Autodefensas to run out The Mexican cartel in local towns in Michoacan. On the U.S side of the border it follows Tim Folley, an ex-military who leads a small group called the Arizona Border Recon who, like Los Autodefensas, want to stop The Cartel from transporting Drugs on the U.S side. What specific scene got to you?      One scene that I distinctly remember was when the film crew and the autodefensas while chasing a presumed cartel member end up getting into a small shootout in the middle of a random street. When they finally get all clear, they get into their truck and start chasing the car that was shooting back at them. When they finally catch up to the car, inside is not on...

Challenges & Experiences of College

One of the biggest challenges I have right now is lack of sleep, I always feel like I'm tired and seem to sleep at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. The only times I try and get some sleep is during the day when I take naps which probably doesn't help with me getting any sort of sleep at night. Coffee in the morning and naps in the afternoon seem to keep me awake but regardless I know I need to find a way to fix my sleep schedule. Other than that, I think I'm pretty good when it comes to my classes except for my biology class which is honestly surprising considering all I've been told is that Chemistry was going to be impossible. I am planning on having a meeting with my teacher to try and go over what I am currently doing and what I can do to improve it and get back on track. I think I'm making a few friends here which is always great, I get to see my family almost every weekend which is great because I feel like I'm the only one that really gets anything done over...

This is a picture that was taken almost a year ago when the FIFA World Cup just started. It was the first couple days of the group stages and on this particular day, my ride or die team Mexico was playing. I have always been a huge fan of soccer and while I don't play it like I used to, I still enjoy watching it. This was their first of three games they had to play in the group stage and on top of that was one of the most important games that they had to play. This was because under no circumstances could they afford to lose against their opponent Poland, the only way they could have realistically entered the knockout stage was either by tying with them or beating them. Poland had very good players including one that is considered to be one of the best forwards/strikers in the world Robert Lewandowski. On top of all that, Mexico had a very lackluster and underwhelming world cup lead up during their qualification campaign, so their world cup performance was expected to be very bad. ...

Expectations for this class

I've been in English classes where not only has it been writing intensive, but also reading intensive. That being said I hope this class is a mix of both. In previous classes I've enjoyed when the literature we read doesn't feel like a task to read. Last year when I was told that we were going to read Hamlet, my initial thought was that it was going to be boring and hard to understand because it was a Shakespeare play. I ended up being very invested in characters like Horatio and Hamlet himself, finding almost hatred for Claudius. In regard to the writing aspect of the class I hope that the writing isn't like a book report, I hated doing things like that. I enjoy writing that is more open ended and that doesn't necessarily require a solid and academic structure to it. But all in all, I'm looking forward to this class and hopefully becoming a better writer.
